A Yueyao Bixie Form Vessel

Description: Well modelled as a recumbent bixie, shown with bared teeth, bulging eyes and pricked ears, with a cylindrical collar rising from the back and detailed with combed or impressed decoration delineating the beard, mane and back above incised wings, the long applied tail with curled edges, all under a thin olive-green glaze.

Similarly, modelled examples were included in the Special Exhibition of Chinese Ceramics, Tokyo National Museum, 1994, nos. 58 and 59. The exact use of these vessels is still being debated.

Age: Western Jin dynasty (265-317)

Size: Approx 11 cm long x 9 cm high.

Condition: Expected age related wear.
